Former intern for Diablo Magazine, mag major at Syracuse University, multimedia editor for
Jerk Magazine.

Last Thursday, I had an awesome opportunity to photograph the new Syracuse Say Yes to Education head Pat Driscoll. The assignment was originally a portrait, but Mr. Driscoll sat down with a class in the library, and that turned out to be a much better photo op.
This has to be one of the few photo assignments I’m truly happy about. It’s definitely not a perfect picture, and there are plenty more angles I would have tried. Yet, from going to the school itself and meeting tons of kind students and staff to actually meeting the genuinely kind and funny Mr. Driscoll, it was the most fun I’ve had on a news assignment this semester. And it all shows in the photo itself; the faculty is in the background beaming, Mr. Driscoll is joking with the students, and the students are all eagerly raising their hands. I was just as happy behind the camera, too.
But, I must say, I miss elementary school. I’d love to go back over times tables and Aesop’s fables over Earth Science any day.
